Barcelona sunset

I recently put this photo of a Barcelona sunset on my Facebook page and I got several comments. Most people saw beauty but one person saw the effects of air pollution. It made me think... perception is everything!

最近我將這張「巴塞隆納的日落」放在我的Facebook網頁上，也得到了些許的回應。大多的人看到的都是這美麗的景色；然而有個人看到的卻是空氣污染所帶來的影響。這讓我不禁的想著.....感知就是一切！

The Age of the Book

Sometimes I wonder if we are now entering of the end of the Age of the Book. Since the invention of the mechanical printing press around 1440, books have been the most important medium for the widespread distribution of knowledge and ideas.

But has the book had its day? Will it be made obsolete by the Internet and by electronic devices like the Kindle? (link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle) Or will our love affair with the feel and smell of a freshly printed "real" book continue? It is said that the only thing that is constant - is change.

實體書的世界末日到了嗎?

有時候我很懷疑我們是不是已經進入了實體書的世界末日,自從一千四百四十年前,人類發明了印刷術之後,書本扮演了人類文明演化和知識想法傳播最重要的媒介。

但是實體書會不會有一天走到盡頭呢? 它會不會完全被網路和電子書給取代呢?(Amazon最新產品-Kindle電子書), 然而我們對於"實體書"的熱愛包含那翻閱時的香味和接觸的真實感,是否能讓實體書延續它的生命? 我想這世界唯一能夠不變的事情---就是改變。

I went to see a football match last weekend. Personally, I have never had much interest in football, yet at the same time I have always been fascinated by the spectacle and I have wondered what exactly makes people go so crazy for the sport.

Some people say football is like a religion. This reminded me of something my mother, a deeply religious person, said to me recently. She said that for many people religion was like being a sport fan! It fulfilled their need for a sense of belonging and community.

Is there a connection? Some people go crazy for sport, others for religion. Is it possible that both meet a similar deep human need?

上週末我去看了一場足球比賽。就我個人而言，我對足球從來沒有任何的興趣。但同時我卻被這樣的奇景所著迷，而且我想不透到底是什麼樣的東西使人為運動所瘋狂。

有些人說足球就如同信仰一般。這句話卻讓我想起我那熱愛信仰的母親最近和我說了一句話。她說：「對許多人而言，信仰就如同成為個運動迷一樣！因為這滿足了他們對於歸屬感以及社群感的需求。」

這彼此間有關聯嗎？有人為了足球瘋狂，有的則為了信仰。這兩者有可能交會成為人們最深層的需求嗎？

Graffiti... Is it art? Is it vandalism? Is it neither? What thoughts come to your mind when you see graffiti on a wall? Are your thoughts similar when you see an advertising hoarding? In each case, someone want to communicate with you. The advertiser may be a company selling a product or a politician seeking your vote. The graffiti artist's message may be as simple as a teenager saying "I exist!" or may be more political.

What are your views on graffiti? And what beliefs are they based upon?

塗鴉 是藝術嗎？還是破壞？或者兩者都不是呢？當你看到牆上的塗鴉時有什麼感想？而當你看到廣告時，會出現一樣的感受嗎？但不管任何種情境，都會有個目的，那就是溝通。或許是廣告商想對你推銷他們的產品；也或許是政治人物想對你拉票。 然而這些塗鴉的藝術家們的想法或許更為簡單，如同一些年輕人一樣只是要表達「我存在著！」，但也可能更泛政治了。

你對於塗鴉又是什麼樣的想法呢？他們又是基於什麼樣的信念呢？

Joey Cleary，愛爾蘭人，目前旅居西班牙。在西班牙工作至今四年多，而在去年2008年5月因緣際會下求道成為道親。在他到西班牙之前，他是個攝影師，不屬於任何一家公司的他，帶著相機四處旅遊拍照再將照片賣給報社、雜誌。今年1月，在素秋姐的介紹下Joey來到了台灣過年，這是他第一次到台灣，但卻是他第45個國家旅遊，這樣的數字配合上他的年齡，可說是一出生後平均每年就旅遊一個國家。

他在台灣旅遊的期間，編輯群也很榮幸的可以和他一起聚餐、出遊，並且進行一些訪談。其中，我們聊到了他這樣四處旅遊，並且也退休了（目前在家當soho），那是否有想過可以定下來呢？的確，現在的他希望可以好好的定下來，這也是他認識道的原因，也希望可以透過道的認識讓他的人生可以有不同的視野。也因此，編輯群便邀請了Joey來編寫「膠卷筆記」，以他的角度透過照片、文字來整理他的世界觀，是一種整理，同時也是一種分享。由於他目前才剛結束在台灣三個禮拜的參訪回到西班牙，最快希望下個月就可以看到他的照片了！
